For professional riders, long-distance riders and commuters in the city, the Arai SZ has become the perfect choice among premium jet helmets. The reason is obvious. The combination of protection, low weight, comfortable fit and unobstructed all-round visibility make the SZ a unique and special helmet.

The very first SZ model, introduced in 1988, opened the door to a new Arai riding experience. This model has been constantly and consistently developed over the decades.

In 2023, the SZ received ECE R22-06 approval and EVO status without having to make any significant changes. Arai's priority for protection and the design philosophy of producing rounder, smoother and stronger outer shells to improve the ability to „slide“ are at the heart of all our efforts, alongside the strict internal criteria that all Arai helmets must meet.

As with every Arai helmet, the SZ-R EVO is the sum of the details that make this helmet the benchmark it represents. The Variable Axis System (VAS) effectively lowers the visor pivot point by using a double pivot point. This makes the helmet shell smoother in the critical key area.

The PB-CLC2 outer shell is made from a special Z-composite material of different resins and has a lightweight inner lining to lower the center of gravity.

The SZ-R EVO offers maximum comfort on long journeys, as the inner contact points evenly surround the rider's head. The interior is fully customizable and designed for the use of glasses and loudspeakers. Ventilation is provided by the same air distribution system as the RX-7V EVO, the flagship of the racing series, with an additional air stabilizer.

Shell construction: PB-cLc2 (Peripherally Belted Complex Laminate Construction)

The complex laminate construction increases the strength and flexibility of the shell and at the same time ensures low weight and a lower center of gravity. This band is located above the eye-opening and allows the use of a thinner EPS lining. This significantly improves the field of vision upwards. Using a specially developed mechanically expanded fiberglass mat between the inner and outer layers of Arai's proprietary superfiber laminates, these two superfiber layers are reinforced and bonded without making the helmet significantly heavier. The latest Z-Mixture resins increase material adhesion, so less resin is needed for a stronger bond between the materials. The helmet shell becomes thinner and lighter.

Variable axle system (VAS-Z)

With the VAS-Z, the position of the visor attachment is lowered, resulting in an average of 24 mm more smooth shell over both key areas compared to the previous generation, to achieve the ideal smoother shape that increases the ability to dissipate energy. As a result, several areas of the helmet shell can be softened to meet or exceed the test areas of the Snell standard.

SZ-R EVO ventilation

The air diffusers inspired by the RX-7V EVO have been developed for excellent aerodynamics and, together with the air wing, ensure better stability. The efficiency of the intake slots has been increased by 19% compared to the previous models. The new air inlets offer better regulation through the three positions closed, half-open and open. They also improve the seal to reduce wind noise and prevent water ingress.

Air distribution system

The system is 20 mm longer and has been straightened for improved aerodynamics. In conjunction with the airfoil, stability is improved. The efficiency of the air distribution system's inlet slots has been increased by 19% compared to the previous models.

Relief over the eyes

Fresh air can be supplied directly to the user's forehead/ temple area without having to drill additional holes in the shell of the helmet.

MotoGP Air Wing® (not adjustable)

The Air Wing is the result of our MotoGP development. Designed and tested to prevent lift, reduce turbulence and flutter and provide additional top speed. It stabilizes the helmet at very high speeds and reduces noise. Adjustable in a total of five positions for individual adaptation to all track conditions.

Pinlock visor (prepared)

Effectively prevents the visor from fogging up. Clear vision, even in adverse weather conditions. Easy to remove for changing or cleaning.

Antimicrobial lining

This skin-friendly, antibacterial material is very pleasant to our skin. With the aim of developing a softer and even more comfortable inner padding, the material used to absorb the padding has also been improved and made softer. The padding has an adjustable insert that allows for personal customization.

Replaceable ear cups

The ear cups can be easily removed. All interchangeable and non-interchangeable parts can be cleaned with lukewarm water and mild soap. After cleaning, rinse well, pat dry with a towel and allow to air dry completely before refitting. Never machine wash or heat dry. Inner parts in various sizes and thicknesses are available for individual customization to each rider.

Replaceable lining

The entire inner padding can be removed very easily. All parts, replaceable or not, can be cleaned well with lukewarm water and very mild soap. Rinse well with clean water afterward and do not leave them to dry in direct sunlight or near a heat source. All interior parts are available in different sizes and thicknesses to enable an individual fit for every driver.

Speaker bags

Built-in communication systems are popular, but the problem is often that the space for speakers is limited or non-existent, resulting in unwanted pressure points. The special speaker pockets that allow speakers to be attached without sacrificing comfort or fit. (Speakers not included).

5 mm removable ear pads/cheek pads

The cheek pads make it even easier to adjust the fit and comfort and have a 5 mm peel-off layer to gain space if required.

With the removable key pads from Arai, 5 mm of space can be gained on the inside if required.

Waterproof layer on cheek pads

A waterproof surface layer prevents rain from penetrating and at the same time acts as sound absorption, which greatly reduces the noise level.

Removable placeholder for glasses

The upper passage to the ear cup can be removed to make it easier to insert the spectacle frames.

Double-D closure

The flat double-D fastener adapts gently to the rider's head without getting in the way. No moving parts, no susceptibility to rust, a chin strap that always fits snugly and the prevention of self-opening are convincing arguments in favor of this type of closure.

ECE R22-06

The ECE R22 is the most widely used helmet standard internationally and is required by over 50 countries worldwide. ECE R22-06 requires a much stricter testing procedure than the previous ECE R22-05 and includes an impact test to measure rotation.
