Alle klimaatmembranen hebben dezelfde basisfunctie: ze beschermen het lichaam tegen vocht van buitenaf, houden de wind buiten en transporteren transpiratie van binnen naar buiten door gebruik te maken van een temperatuurgradiënt. Dit geeft de kleding tegelijkertijd een uitstekende bescherming tegen het weer en comfort.
Alle membranen zijn gemaakt van polyurethaan of polyester en transporteren waterdampmoleculen betrouwbaar naar buiten langs moleculaire ketens door chemisch-fysische middelen. De poriënvrije homogene structuur laat geen wind door en voorkomt zo dat het lichaam afkoelt. Voor een waterdichte constructie wordt elke individuele naad gelast met een speciale warmte-afdichtende tape, zodat er geen water van buitenaf door de naden kan binnendringen. Afhankelijk van het productmerk worden de membranen gemaakt van verschillende basismaterialen en meestal verwerkt als een losse film ("liner") aan de binnenkant van jassen en broeken. Speciale materialen en speciale verwerkingsrichtlijnen maken de membranen extreem slijtvast, rekbaar en extreem scheurvast.

Held-Tex-Z-liner
All climate membranes have the same basic function: they protect the body from moisture from the outside, keep out the wind and transport body perspiration from the inside to the outside by exploiting a temperature gradient. This gives the clothing excellent weather protection and comfort at the same time.
All membranes are made of polyurethane or polyester and reliably transport water vapour molecules to the outside along molecular chains by chemical-physical means. The pore-free homogeneous structure does not allow the wind to penetrate and thus prevents the body from cooling down. For a waterproof construction, each individual seam is welded with a special heat-sealing tape so that no water can penetrate from the outside through the seams. Depending on the product brand, the membranes are made of different basic materials and are usually incorporated as a loose film ("liner") on the inside of jackets and trousers. Special materials and special processing guidelines make the membranes extremely hard-wearing, stretchy and extremely tear-resistant.
