The system's ultra-flat profile provides an “invisible under the jacket” feel, offering unrestricted freedom of movement while providing advanced protection for an enhanced riding experience. Based on Alpinestars' industry-leading protection technology, the Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA Airbag System is the latest development in the Alpinestars Tech-Air® family. Designed for ultra-lightweight performance, superior comfort, and an “invisible” fit, the state-of-the-art Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA system offers comprehensive upper body protection—including the chest, ribs, back, and shoulders—and features a PLASMA back protector for the optimal blend of comfort, flexibility, airflow, and rider protection. With a newly developed algorithm that supports three different riding modes—STREET, OFF-ROAD, and RACE—the Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA is a single-deployment airbag system with a user-replaceable gas cartridge for continuous protection on every ride.

- Quick-release design for fast gas inflator replacement: The quick-release fastener, secured with Velcro, allows easy access to the gas inflator – drivers can simply insert a finger into the recess and lift the cover to release it and access the gas inflator. In countries where local regulations allow individuals to handle and replace the gas inflator themselves, riders can quickly replace the gas inflator to remain protected while riding

- Ride modes and LED display
- The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA has three ride modes: STREET, OFF-ROAD, and RACE. Once the system has been correctly switched on, the user can easily switch between the three different ride modes by pressing the button integrated into the LED display for two seconds. A solid green LED appears on the riding mode LED, indicating which riding mode is currently active. Riders can simply scroll through the riding modes until the desired riding mode is selected. The system triggers a short (1-second) vibration when the riding mode is changed
- When zipped up, the Tech-Air® 5 Plasma automatically activates via a separate internal magnetic sensor, and the LED indicator on the lower chest not only visually indicates the operating status of the system, but also triggers a short (1 second) haptic vibration alarm to notify and confirm to the rider when the system is armed. The system generates a long vibration (3 seconds) when it is disarmed or when the system displays a red status LED

- Optimized airbag design: Anatomically designed to increase the area of protection. The airbag features strategically positioned recesses that conform to the rider's body to provide superior impact protection for the back, chest, ribs, and shoulders while minimizing material volume
- Minimal use of plastic components: for a low weight-to-performance ratio while maintaining maximum airflow and freedom of movement

- The Tech-Air® 5 PLASMA system and all protective components included are certified as Category II PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with European Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and comply with the relevant UK regulations
- The passive back protector is certified in accordance with EN1621-2:2014 Level 1
- The inflatable protector is certified according to EN 1621-4:2013 Level 1
- The system is certified according to EN 17092-6:2020 as protective clothing for motorcyclists as Class C undergarments
- Airbag deployments: The airbag is certified for up to six deployments before replacement is required
